Aspect No. 15 - El Cobre.

El Cobre is a representative manifestation for cobre (copper).

Referencing a reoccuring source of inspiratio nfor this body of work, the Pre-Hispanic alloy 'tumbaga, which is composed mostly of copper + gold. (Some pieces found with small amounts of silver.)

El Cobre. is manifested by the following future relics -

  • El Abrigo Cobreado - An oversized rust wool coat embellished with copper staples creating a texture blocked geometric motif.

  • El Saco Cobreado - An elongated linen jacket fully embellished in copper staples.

  • Camiseta de Cobre - A doubler layered jersey tank top with an exaggerated crotch drape.

  • Pantalones Anchos de Lana- A elongated wool trouser with copper staple embellisments.

  • El Bolso de Cobre - A wool clutch embellished with copper sheets + sewn copper tubes.

See below for a look into the process.

A Tumbagas that hails from the Copper Sector of Perdida. Los Cobreados are a much larger community then Los Plateados. They live in a landscape that is lush, their metal structures growing out of the very landscape, that is also rich in copper, which they mine for their spiritual practices with Los Plateados

This Aspect is a piece that primarily focuses on exploring copper, one of the metal components that creates the tumbaga alloy, as the focal point. By creating a complete rust tonal look, it allows for a textural study in layering different weights/finishes/materials of rust hues.

The geometric detailing found in the over coat is pulled from the geometric quality of this Tolima Anthropo-Zoomorphic breastplate found in el Museo Del Oro in Bogotá. The lines in the breastplate made me think of the staples I use in my textiles.
